Amazon has invested R24 million in a major environmental project that will restore parts of the Klip River corridor in Soweto while creating jobs and supporting local communities.
The initiative will restore 130 hectares of river landscape, plant 20 000 trees, create hundreds of jobs and train more than 1 000 women to develop income generating businesses linked to environmental restoration.
The project will also use technology to help the City of Johannesburg improve climate planning and strengthen protection against flooding and extreme heat.

Bikers Ride for Mandela Day to Support Tshepang Care Centre

More than 150 bikers took part in the Soweto Motorbike School's annual Mandela Day Charity Ride, delivering essential donations to the Tshepang Care Centre in Thembisa.
The riders handed over food parcels, blankets, bedding, a fridge and a stove to the centre, which was founded by Sarah Sibiya to support vulnerable children and families in the community.
The annual initiative brings together the biking community to honour Nelson Mandela's legacy through acts of kindness and practical support for people in need.
The Gauteng MEC for Social Development, Nomantu Nkomo Ralehoko, also praised Sarah Sibiya for her dedication to serving the community.
