Gauteng’s top matric achievers receive R250,000 donation

Top-performing matric learners in Gauteng have received a R250,000 boost for their education.
The Chinese Consulate General in Johannesburg made the donation at a provincial ceremony recognising the class of 2025 last week.
The funding supports youth development and future study opportunities.
Gauteng recorded an 89.06 percent matric pass rate in 2025, the highest in the province to date.

Southern Guards rebrands

South Africa’s LIV Golf team has rebranded itself to the Southern Guards, just months before the Saudi-backed league tees off on African soil for the first time.
The team, previously known as Stinger Golf Club, had to rebrand due to trademark issues.
The team, captained by Louis Oosthuizen and featuring Charl Schwartzel, Branden Grace, and Dean Burmester, features a rhino in the new logo.
Southern Guards says that at the heart of the team’s identity is an emphasis on culture, unity, and resilience.

Nasa's mega Moon rocket arrives at launch pad

Nasa’s giant new moon rocket has moved to the launchpad in preparation for astronauts’ first lunar fly-around in more than half a century.
The BBC reports that over almost 12 hours, the 98m-tall Space Launch System was carried vertically from the Vehicle Assembly Building on the 6.5km journey to the pad on Saturday.
Now it is in position, the final tests, checks - and a dress rehearsal - will take place, before the go-ahead is given for the 10-day Artemis II mission that will see four astronauts travel around the Moon.
Nasa Space Launch Programme Manager, John Honeycutt says the earliest the rocket can blast off is 6 February, but there are also more launch windows later that month, as well as in March and April:
