The Nhlanhla Tshabalala Foundation is raising funds to provide 100 solar lights to matric learners from disadvantaged schools and informal settlements in Soweto.
The lights will help learners study after dark where access to electricity is limited, giving them more time and better conditions to prepare for exams.
Funds will be raised through the foundation’s 10th anniversary charity golf day and gala dinner at Soweto Country Club in Pimville on 28 August.
The foundation is marking a decade of community work with the drive, under the theme “Leaving no child behind."

The SAPS Mxenge Women’s Network has brought women in policing and public service together in East London to strengthen mentorship and support networks.
The gathering at the East London Golf Club last Friday focused on gender discrimination and gender-based violence.
Speakers urged women to support victims of abuse and use SAPS victim-support services.
The network also called for stronger partnerships and mentorship programmes to support women in service.

The NSRI is celebrating women who rescue people, teach water safety, coordinate emergencies and maintain lifesaving equipment.
They serve in a range of roles across the organisation, from frontline rescue work to supporting emergency operations.
Women make up 30% of the NSRI’s 1 566 volunteers and are taking on more operational and leadership roles.
The organisation says their work is helping protect communities and save lives.
