Tshwane University of Technology, in partnership with the Government Communication and Information System, hosted a Women in Media and Communication Speed Mentoring Session in Pretoria.
Forty female journalism and communication students engaged with South Africa’s leading media professionals in short, focused sessions, gaining advice on career development, ethics, resilience, and collaboration.
The event concluded with a Q&A on balancing demanding careers, breaking barriers, and personal growth. Organisers highlighted the importance of empowering women in media and creating platforms for the next generation of leaders.

Manzomthombo Secondary School from the Western Cape and Helpmekaar Kollege of Johannesburg will travel to Singapore in November after winning the U15 finals at the Sanlam Kay Motsepe Schools Netball Championship in Rustenburg.
The tournament featured 36 schools from across South Africa, split into Botho and Ubuntu streams.
Manzomthombo beat Majeje Secondary to win the Ubuntu section, while Helpmekaar defeated Middelburg Hoerskool in the Botho stream.
Both teams will represent South Africa in the International Youth Netball Challenge and gain valuable international experience. The Motsepe Foundation congratulated the winners and praised the high standard of play.

Staghorn coral in Key Largo in the USA, have successfully spawned for the first time since a 2023 bleaching event damaged the reefs.
During this rare yearly event, the coral release reproductive cells, creating a magical underwater display.
Scientists from the Coral Restoration Foundation and Chicago’s Shedd Aquarium collected samples to help strengthen the coral and increase genetic diversity.
Some will support coral breeding projects worldwide, while others will help restore Florida’s reefs.
The success brings hope for the future of coral in the USA and shows the positive impact of conservation efforts.
