University of Pretoria raises R620,000 in Inaugural giving month campaign

The University of Pretoria has raised 620-thousand-rand as part of its inaugural Giving Month campaign in July.

The campaign received support from individuals and organisations, including the Pretoria-based Bulls and Bulls Daisies rugby teams, who rallied behind the cause.

The Month concluded with a vibrant Food Pack-a-Thon on the Hatfield Campus, where hundreds of volunteers came together to donate more than two-thousand-600 non-perishable food items to help students who are facing food insecurity.

Vice-Chancellor and Principal professor, Francis Petersen says giving is not defined by the size of a donation but by the intention behind it.

SANParks announces 20th Annual National Parks Week

South African National Parks will host the 20th annual SA National Parks Week from the 22nd to the 26th of September, with select parks extending free entry to the 27th and 28th of September.

The week will be launched with a celebratory event at Kruger National Park on the 21st of September.

Visitors can access participating SANParks national parks for free during this period.

The week is used to promote awareness and appreciation of South Africa’s natural, cultural and historical heritage as managed and preserved by SanParks.

Since its launch in 2006, SA National Parks Week has attracted an influx of day visitors to participating parks.

Ethiopia’s new airport project gets $7.8 Billion boost

The African Development Bank will lead efforts to raise $7.8billion for the construction of a new airport in Ethiopia.
The facility is planned to become Africa’s largest airport upon completion in 2029, with the capacity to handle 100 million passengers annually.

The state-owned carrier, Ethiopian Airlines has
signed an agreement for the design of the four-runway airport near Bishoftu, which is approximately 45 km southeast of Addis Ababa.

CEO Mesfin Tasew revealed the project’s total cost at $10bn, with the airline providing 20% of the funding.
