Eight SA learners head to NASA space competition

Eight South African learners will travel to NASA’s Kennedy Space Centre in Florida, US, after being selected for an international space design competition.
The group earned their place through the South African Space Design Competition finals at the University of Cape Town, where more than 100 learners worked together to design a fictional lunar city.
The selected learners were chosen for their problem-solving, leadership and teamwork skills.
In Florida, they will join international teams to design and present space settlement concepts to aerospace engineers and industry experts.

SA organisations win top honours at 2026 WTM Africa Tourism Awards

South African organisations have won top honours at the 2026 WTM Africa Responsible Tourism Awards in Cape Town.
Three gold awards went to the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company, Traditional African Homestays Southern Africa, and the V and A Waterfront Academy for their impact in local procurement, community income, and job creation.
Two silver awards were awarded to the Graskop Gorge Lift Company for its low-impact access system and Unexplored Cape Town for inclusive food tourism.
The Cape Tourist Guides Association was named a One to Watch for its work in diversifying the tourism sector.

Kenya hosted the inaugural FIFA Series Women’s International Friendly Tournament in Nairobi last week, staging its first FIFA-sanctioned women’s football event.
Four countries took part in the tournament, which brought together international teams for a series of friendly matches.
The event was used to prepare teams for upcoming competitions, including the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
