Tarentaal resident honoured for helping vulnerable babies

Tarentaal retirement village resident Carla Fasold has been recognised by Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital for spending the past 10 years knitting blankets and other items for vulnerable babies.
Carla spends almost five hours a day knitting and self-funds the wool used to make blankets, jerseys and sensory items for babies from disadvantaged backgrounds.
She says seeing the babies who receive her handmade items has given even greater meaning to her work and strengthened her determination to continue helping.

Special Olympics athletes receive free health screenings

More than 300 young athletes with intellectual disabilities received free medical screenings during the Special Olympics National Summer Games in Rustenburg.
The screenings covered six areas of healthcare and formed part of a partnership between Special Olympics South Africa and health authorities.
More than 51 medical professionals were also trained to better support people with intellectual disabilities.
Special Olympics South Africa CEO Ancilla Smith expressed gratitude for the support, saying partnerships like these help expand access to healthcare for athletes.

Helderberg learners help transform school with colourful murals

Learners at Hope and Light School in the Helderberg have helped bring colour and positive messages to their school through a community mural project.
Grade 6 learners worked alongside Paint Sir Lowry’s Pass Village to create colourful murals on the walls of the Grade R and Grade 1 blocks.
The artwork promotes the school’s values, kindness and standing up against bullying.
The project also gives young people an opportunity to develop creative skills while improving their community.
