This is in bid to combat the widespread problem of theft and vandalism of critical infrastructure in Johannesburg.
City Power Spokesperson Isaac Mangena says the new system operates independently, reducing the impact of damage to individual lights.
He says they plan to introduce smart lighting control systems and energy monitoring technology to enhance efficiency.

Over 1,100 young South Africans unleash creativity in competitions

More than 1,100 young South Africans took part in the Hear Me Out and Ke-ready to Ringa creative competitions over the past few months.
The competitions were part of the national Hold My Hand campaign, supporting the National Strategy to Accelerate Action for Children.
Through letters, poems, videos, songs, and drawings, the participants expressed their thoughts on topics including love, mental health, respect, digital life and safety.
Hold My Hand’s Lebo Motshegoa says the competitions gave the young people permission to speak freely.
