Technology Could Make Braiding Faster
Teaser / Tailpiece story
A Nigerian engineer has developed a device designed to make traditional hair braiding faster and reduce the long hours women spend sitting in salons.
Yinka Ogunbiyi, co-founder of HaloBraid, says the technology assists hairstylists with the repetitive weaving process while allowing them to control and finish the braids by hand.
The idea came during the COVID-19 lockdown when she spent four days trying to braid her own hair.
The company has since raised seven million US dollars in seed funding to develop the device further and prepare it for manufacturing.
