Community Cleaners help keep Berario’s parks thriving
Story 1
Volunteers from the non-profit Community Cleaners gathered on Sunday to maintain King and Wilson Park, showing how regular community effort can improve public spaces.
Once overgrown and difficult to manage, the park now benefits from consistent upkeep, which helps discourage litter, reduce vagrancy, and strengthen community ties.
Community Cleaners currently manage 14 of the 17 parks across Fairland, Berario, and Northcliff, covering about 60 acres.
Around 15 volunteers dedicate their weekends to the initiative, inspiring other residents to contribute, whether by picking up litter, donating equipment, or supporting the group financially

UK’s First Geothermal Power Plant Begins Generating Electricity in Cornwall
Teaser / Tailpiece story
The United Kingdom’s first geothermal power plant has started producing electricity in Cornwall.
The United Downs Geothermal Power Plant will generate enough power for about 10,000 homes by using very hot water pumped from more than 4.8 km underground.
The project was developed by Geothermal Engineering Ltd, which drilled the deepest onshore well in the UK to reach water heated to over 190°C. The heat is used to turn turbines and create electricity around the clock, no matter the weather.
The plant will also extract lithium from the water, a key material used in rechargeable batteries. The electricity will be supplied to homes through Octopus Energy.
