Social Development marks International Children’s Day at Hammanskraal school for deaf learners

The Department of Social Development has marked International Children’s Day at the Department of Social Development engagement hosted at the Dominican School for the Deaf in Hammanskraal, north of Pretoria, focusing on the rights and inclusion of children with disabilities.
The event formed part of Child Protection Week and included educational and recreational activities aimed at learners. Officials say the visit was intended to ensure children with disabilities are seen, heard and included in national conversations affecting them.
The school, which serves about 250 learners, has provided specialised education and support for more than six decades. Child Protection Week continues until 5 June.

12 Year Old Graduates College With Top Honours in California

A 12 year old in California has graduated from Evergreen Valley College with an Associate Degree in Mathematics, achieving a perfect 4.0 grade point average and earning valedictorian honours.
Phung Hieu Diep completed the qualification while still in primary school, making him one of the youngest graduates in the college’s history.
The achievement has been widely recognised as an example of exceptional academic dedication at a very young age. Diep says his biggest lesson from the journey is that struggling is just part of the learning process.
