Repo Rate Cut Welcomed as Boost for Growth and Relief
Story 2
The Reserve Bank’s decision to cut the repo rate to 7.25% has been met with optimism from economists and political parties.
The move follows a drop in April’s inflation to 2.8%, well below the Reserve Bank’s target range.
Experts say this creates welcome space for rate cuts, giving consumers some breathing room and supporting economic recovery.
Sanlam Investments economist Patrick Buthelezi says another cut could still be on the cards, with long-term growth potential looking promising.
Despite global uncertainty, the latest move is seen as a positive step toward boosting confidence and economic momentum.

"Thokoza Photographer Wins Top Global Prize with Tribute to Late Sister"
Story 3
South African photographer Lindokuhle Sobekwa has captured the world’s heart – and a major international prize – with a powerful tribute to his late sister.
The Thokoza-born artist has won the 2025 Deutsche Börse (DOI-che -Borse) Photography Foundation Prize in London for his project “I Carry Her Photo With Me.” It’s a deeply personal body of work that traces his family’s grief, sparked by the rediscovery of a torn photo of his sister, Ziyanda.
Using simple tools – handwritten notes, old family pictures, and emotional honesty – Sobekwa has created what judges called a profound reminder of photography’s power to connect, not just capture.
This marks the second year in a row that a South African has taken home the prize.
