Mohlakeng residents encouraged to build cleaner communities

Community members in Mohlakeng in the West Rand, came together for a World Environment Day event aimed at promoting environmental awareness and sustainable living.
Hosted by the Rand West City Local Municipality in partnership with the Gauteng Department of Environment, the event educated residents on issues such as pollution, waste management and protecting natural resources.
Community members were encouraged to take greater responsibility for keeping their neighbourhoods clean and helping create healthier environments for future generations.
Residents welcomed the initiative, saying it gave people the knowledge and motivation to play a more active role in caring for their communities.

Dis-Chem Foundation strengthens support for lifesaving sea rescues

The Dis-Chem Foundation is continuing its support of the National Sea Rescue Institute, helping ensure its volunteers remain ready to respond to emergencies along South Africa's coastline.
The NSRI is the country's only non profit organisation dedicated exclusively to saving lives on the water. Its volunteers are on call 24 hours a day, carrying out rescue operations while also providing water safety education and drowning prevention programmes in communities across the country.
The Foundation's monthly contributions help fund volunteer training, essential resources and public safety initiatives, allowing the NSRI to expand its reach and continue protecting lives both at sea and through education.

Brakpan youth leader Lerato Maris has been named one of the recipients of the 16th African Achievers Awards in recognition of her work empowering young people and supporting sustainable development.
Maris will receive the Excellence in Youth Development and Sustainable Development Advocate and African Youth Leadership and Social Impact Award at a ceremony at the House of Lords in London on 22 July. The honour follows her recent recognition as Global Peace Chain's Best Ambassador of the Year for 2026.
Her work focuses on mentoring young people, promoting volunteerism and helping equip youth with skills for sustainable livelihoods.
