Wits Business School’s Shoe Drive Brings Happy Feet to Mid-Ennerdale Learner

Almost 600 pairs of school shoes were donated to children in need at Mid-Ennerdale Primary School, thanks to a heartwarming campaign by Wits Business School staff and students.
Launched in late 2024 by the WBS Sustainability Committee, the “Walk a Child to School” drive exceeded its original goal of 300 pairs, gaining momentum especially among MBA students.
The successful campaign culminated in a special handover event , attended by education officials, school leaders, councillors, and WBS representatives.
Prof Maurice Radebe highlighted how something as simple as a pair of shoes can transform a child’s school experience, offering hope and opportunity.
Building on this success, the committee plans further donations of shoes, computers, and furniture in partnership with other Wits departments

R5 Million Youth Enterprise Fund Launched to Boost Skills and Entrepreneurship

Higher Education Minister Nobuhle Nkabane has launched a R5 million Youth Enterprise Fund to support young entrepreneurs in Mopani District, Limpopo.
Announced during Youth Month celebrations at Mopani TVET College, the fund is a partnership between the department, NYDA and local government.
Nkabane described it as an investment in youth dignity, agency and innovation — not just the economy.
Over 1,500 people attended the event, which focused on skills for a changing world and the need to align education with future job markets.
Young leaders and officials called on youth to embrace education, innovation and entrepreneurship as tools for transformation.

Dalai Lama Turns 90 and Reaffirms Future of His Spiritual Legacy

The Dalai Lama joined thousands of followers on Monday to celebrate his 90th birthday with prayers and chants in the Indian Himalayan town he has called home for decades.
During the celebrations, the Tibetan spiritual leader confirmed that the centuries-old institution of the Dalai Lama will continue — a move that brings comfort to millions around the world.
He said the decision honours appeals from Tibetans in exile and in Tibet, as well as Buddhists across the region.
Only his India-based trust, he added, has the authority to recognise the next Dalai Lama, firmly rejecting outside interference.
