Team rescues family of cats living in stormwater drain
Story 2
A female cat and her four kittens were rescued after being discovered living in a stormwater drain by a local resident in Cape Town. The kittens, around five weeks old, had only ever known life inside the pipes.
African Tails, together with volunteers from Bo-Kaap Cats and the AACL, carefully trapped the mother cat, Molly, and her kittens using nets and foster support. Molly needed a toe amputation after an old injury, and vets at Tygerberg Animal Hospital helped with her recovery.
All five cats are now safe, healthy, and in foster care while awaiting permanent homes.

Community steps in to clean up and improve safety in Sunninghill
Story 3
The Sunninghill Ratepayers Association has launched its 2026 Restore Sunninghill initiative, focusing on overgrown grass, litter removal, and safer public spaces.
Grass cutting along major roads like Maxwell and Van der Bijl drives is a priority, as long grass can create hiding spots for criminals. Litter removal and maintenance of community gardens are also underway, with local businesses such as Sunninghill Shell and Sunninghill Recovery Lodge providing sponsorship and support.
The voluntary association says resident participation is key, encouraging neighbors and complexes to maintain pavements, verges, and shared spaces.
