Joburg Celebrates 2025 Soweto Marathon Success

The City of Johannesburg is celebrating the 2025 African Bank Soweto Marathon, known as The People’s Race.
This year, 18,000 runners took part, including athletes from South Africa, France, Lesotho, Zambia and Kenya.
Despite early showers, participants completed the 42-kilometre race with determination.
Deputy President Paul Mashatile and MMC Sithembiso Zungu awarded medals to the top three male and female finishers. Khoarahlane Joseph Seutloali won the men’s race in 2 hours 20 minutes, and Margaret Jepchumba claimed the women’s title in 2 hours 34 minutes. Veteran Julian Karp also completed his 1,000th marathon.
Mayor Dada Morero says the event highlights Soweto as a leading sporting and cultural destination and promises to grow the race further.

South African youth to shine at global science Olympiad

Four South African students will present their award-winning projects at the World Innovative Science Project Olympiad in Bali from 10 to 13 December 2025.
All are Gold medalists from the Eskom Expo International Science Fair.
Dzunisa Chauke developed a system to detect AI-generated voices, Milla Vorster is advancing 3D bioprinting of organs, Ismaail Hassen created a wearable navigation device for the visually impaired, and Albertus van Niekerk studied antifungal properties of lavender oil for sustainable agriculture.
The students will be guided by Eskom Expo director Jane Wasonga. Organisers say the Olympiad provides a global stage for young scientists and showcases South Africa’s emerging STEM talent.

Création Africa reopens to boost cultural entrepreneurship in Southern Africa

Création Africa has officially reopened, inviting cultural entrepreneurs from South Africa, Lesotho and Malawi to apply.
The initiative, supported by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, the Embassy of France, and the French Institute of South Africa, will run an intensive mentorship programme starting in February next year.
The programme is designed to develop creative projects and strengthen the cultural business sector across the region.
