Braai Showdown in Elardus Park Raises Funds for The Haven Care Centre

Elardus Park’s Meat World hosted a competitive braai event on Saturday, attracting participants and spectators from across Pretoria.
Contestants had four hours to grill and plate beef, chicken, and boerewors rolls for the judges, showcasing skill, creativity, and flavour.
Jacques Engelbrecht claimed first place, narrowly defeating Johnny Olivier, who finished second.
Prizes included a fridge stocked with Meat World products for Engelbrecht and a high-end braai with a starter kit for Olivier.
Live entertainment kept the crowd engaged throughout the event.
The competition also supported the local community, with proceeds from the day raising over R7 000 for The Haven Care Centre, which provides care and support for abandoned and vulnerable individuals.

New Isuzu plant brings jobs and local manufacturing boost to Eastern Cape

Isuzu Motors South Africa has opened a R740 million metal-pressing facility in Gqeberha, run by majority Black female-owned VSL Manufacturing.
The plant will produce key components for the new Isuzu D-Max and reduce reliance on imported panels.
It has already created 52 jobs, with plans to grow to 120 as production ramps up.
Co-owner Vuyo Skweyiya highlighted the plant’s role in empowering young people and women in a male-dominated industry and stressed its importance for localising vehicle components.

UP, University of Tokyo and AfDB launch Africa–Asia leadership partnership

The University of Pretoria has joined the University of Tokyo and the African Development Bank to develop the next generation of Africa–Asia leaders.
Supported by the Japanese Government through the Japan Trust Fund, the initiative will focus on public–private collaboration, youth entrepreneurship, SME development, and sustainable industrialisation.
Future Africa at UP and the University of Tokyo Graduate School of Public Policy will lead implementation.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Francis Petersen said the partnership will equip graduates for the future of work and drive innovation, digitalisation, and business solutions to address challenges such as unemployment and food insecurity.
