Young South African mathematicians win medals in Japan

Two young learners from Curro Krugersdorp Primary School have brought home international recognition after winning bronze medals at a global mathematics competition in Japan.
Grade Two learner Tshifhiwa Nengwekhulu and his Grade R brother Unarine competed against young mathematicians from around the world at the World Anzan Classic in Ishikawa.
The brothers showcased their mental arithmetic skills and finished among the top performers in the competition.

Amla says 2027 World Cup will be a major moment for African cricket

Former Proteas batting great Hashim Amla says the 2027 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup will be a major opportunity for cricket in South Africa and across the continent.
He says hosting the tournament will inspire more young people to take up the sport while giving the Proteas the chance to compete for their first Men's Cricket World Cup title on home soil.
South Africa will co host the tournament with Zimbabwe and Namibia from October to November 2027, the first Cricket World Cup in Africa since 2003.
Amla says he believes South Africa has a real chance of winning the World Cup and that this is the perfect time for Africa to host the tournament.

The event at Peter Pan Park included fitness activities, charity stalls and community participation, with proceeds going towards Child Welfare SA Edenvale and Bedfordview.
Organisers say the fundraiser brought together residents, businesses and organisations to raise funds that will support children and families in need.

The Aliwal Shoal Hope Spot on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast celebrated Marine Protected Area Day yesterday with a range of activities promoting ocean conservation and community involvement.
The programme included a 33 kilometre coastal walk, guided rock pool explorations, whale watching, reef dives and a screening of the documentary Mission Blue.
Organisers say the event encouraged more people to connect with the marine environment and help protect one of South Africa's most important ocean ecosystems.
