NBA and partners host Soweto youth sports day

The NBA, the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund and Rhiza hosted a youth sports day in Soweto to encourage young people to stay active during the school holidays.
The event introduced children to basketball, soccer and other sporting activities while promoting healthy lifestyles and inclusion.
Nelson Mandela Children's Fund Youth Leadership Manager Samke Mnguni says the initiative encourages young people to spend less time on social media and more time taking part in sport.

Driving licence validity extended to 10 years

South African motorists will soon only need to renew their driving licences every 10 years instead of every five.
Transport Minister Barbara Creecy says Cabinet has approved extending the validity of Code A, A1, B and EB driving licences to reduce pressure on licensing centres, improve service delivery and help tackle corruption in the renewal process.
The new validity period will come into effect once the necessary amendments to the National Road Traffic Regulations have been finalised.
She says government has heard the concerns raised by members of the public about the current system.

Department opens new multi purpose sports court for Soweto learners

The Department of Sport, Arts and Culture has handed over a new multi purpose sports court at Vulamazibuko Primary School in Soweto to improve access to quality sports facilities.
Deputy Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture Peace Mabe says the project forms part of the department's efforts to give children in disadvantaged communities the same opportunities to discover and develop their sporting talent.
The court will allow learners to take part in a variety of sports and build their skills

All 11 survive seaplane crash in Washington State

All 11 people on board a seaplane have survived after it crashed into the Sound near Seattle in the United States.
The aircraft, carrying 10 passengers and a pilot, went down on the water and caught fire before sinking. Emergency crews rushed to the scene and rescued everyone on board, with some passengers taken to hospital for treatment.
Officials say the pilot’s actions helped give those on board a chance to survive.
