Basic Education and Digital Technologies Ministers launch Smart Tablet Initiative at Glenvista Primary School

The Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube and the Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, Solly Malatsi, undertook a joint handover of smart learning tablets to learners at Glenvista Primary School in Johannesburg on Thursday.

The donation by private sector partners, form part of government’s broader efforts to improve school connectivity, digital literacy and access to coding and robotics education in the basic education sector.

The handover is a practical step towards equipping learners with 21st-century skills, fostering early exposure to technology, while preparing them to thrive in a fast-changing economy.

Gwarube emphasized the role technology plays in improving education outcomes and in transforming the learning experience for children.

The initiative forms part of i3A's school programme which aims to give learners the opportunity to begin their agricultural studies from Grade 10—covering a wide range of fields such as beef and crop production, wildlife management and viticulture.

The Cape Forum’s Bernard Pieters says the partnership creates exciting pathways for young people to enter the Agricultural sector with real-world skills and opportunities.
