City Power extends Free Basic Electricity Registration

City Power has extended the Free Basic Electricity registration amid growing demand.

The Power utility says it has successfully registered 10 000 customers, since the launch of the free basic electricity campaign in June.

Residents who successfully registered will receive 50 kWh of electricity for free every month and will also be exempt from City Power’s R200 surcharge, which consists of a R70 service fee and a R130 network capacity charge.

Spokesperson Isaac Mangena announced the extension to the 31st of December to allow more qualifying residents to benefit from the programme.

Qualifying residents include pensioners, the unemployed, and those earning below R7 503.00.

Netflix launches Screen Craft Pathway Programme in South Africa

Global streaming giant Netflix has officially unveiled the Screen Craft Pathway programme in South Africa—an on-the-job training initiative developed in partnership with the Gauteng Film Commission and the KwaZulu-Natal Tourism & Film Authority.

Under the programme 30 emerging creatives, will be selected to receive hands-on training across various roles including pre‑production, production and post‑production.

Netflix Director of Public Policy for Sub‑Saharan Africa, Shola Sanni, says the programme demonstrates their commitment to investing in local storytellers and creatives while supporting the growth of a sustainable talent ecosystem and enabling more authentic stories from South Africa to reach global audiences.
