Johannesburg’s Rescue Expo Brings South Africa’s Animal Heroes Together
Johannesburg’s Rescue Expo returns with its first-ever Autumn Edition on Sunday 19 April 2026 at Bryanston Market from 9am to 3pm.
The event brings together organisations rescuing and rehabilitating animals from greyhounds and cats to donkeys, pigs, parrots, rats, and big cats.
Visitors can meet the people behind these lifesaving efforts, explore adoption opportunities, buy fundraising merchandise, and enjoy a pet-friendly day out.
Tickets cost R50 for adults, while children attend free.

Khayelitsha Educator Builds Thriving Preschool From Experience
Mthwakazi Nancy Soqaka has turned her 15 years of teaching experience into a growing early childhood education enterprise in Khayelitsha.
Grow Buddies Preschool and Aftercare began in 2022 with just four children and has since expanded to a second centre, serving over 50 learners.
With support from Grow ECD and partners like Breadline SA, Nancy strengthened classroom quality, improved infrastructure, and introduced efficient systems for managing staff, finances, and enrolment.
Her centres now provide high-quality early learning while creating jobs and giving children a strong start in life.

Johannesburg Learner to Represent South Africa at English Olympiad
Ten-year-old Kitana Inderpal from Johannesburg will represent South Africa at the AsiaRope International English Olympiad in Bangkok, Thailand.
She earned Gold status and top national placements in South African and AsiaRope competitions, showcasing her exceptional talent in English.
Kitana will compete against learners from 10 to 20 countries, gaining valuable international experience and exposure at a young age.

Artemis II mission marks historic return to the Moon
NASA has successfully launched its Artemis II mission, sending four astronauts on a journey around the Moon and back, the first crewed mission beyond low Earth orbit in more than 50 years. The liftoff took place on Wednesday from the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida, starting an approximately 10 day mission to test deep space systems and prepare for future Moon landings.
The crew includes Commander Reid Wiseman, Pilot Victor Glover, Mission Specialist Christina Koch from NASA, and Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen, who becomes the first non American to fly a crewed mission around the Moon. Artemis II also marks the first time women have flown on a NASA lunar mission with Christina Koch on board.
