Disability sport in South Africa has received a major lift after SASCOC increased funding for the South African Sports Association for the Physically Disabled from R60 million to R100 million over the next four years.
The announcement came as the 2026 Disability Championships concluded on Tuesday in Stellenbosch, where athletes competed for national honours and major international qualifying places.
The extra funding is expected to strengthen athlete preparation and improve support ahead of global events, while also helping grow inclusive sport across the country.

The historic unveiling took place on Tuesday in Daveyton, Gauteng, with the new Kaizer Chiefs Ladies set to compete in the Gauteng Sasol League this season.
Chiefs took over the status of an existing Women’s club to form the team, signalling a long anticipated commitment to developing pathways for female players and expanding opportunities at elite level.
Home matches will be played at both Kaizer Chiefs Village in Naturena and KwaThema Stadium in Springs.
