Lost Sea Otter Pup Reunited with Mother in Morro Bay
Story 3
Marine conservationists in Morro Bay, California, reunited a lost baby sea otter, nicknamed Caterpillar, with its mother.
The Marine Mammal Center, with help from the harbor patrol, located the pup and used a recording of its cries played over a Bluetooth speaker to attract the mother.
After two hours, a female otter appeared and followed the sound to the pup.
Gently lowered into the water, the tiny otter floated on its back as its mother sniffed it before swimming away together.
With its dense, buoyant fur, the pup stayed safe and warm, highlighting both the ingenuity of conservation techniques and the dedication of those protecting marine life along California’s coast.
