UP Students and Melusi Residents Create New Community Spaces

A partnership between University of Pretoria Architecture students and Melusi residents has delivered two new timber structures for the community.
The project turned an abandoned shack into a youth centre, allowing the Melusi Youth Development Organisation to extend its services.
A new sheltered waiting area was also built for the local clinic, giving patients a safer and more comfortable space.
Both structures can be relocated in future, supporting long term settlement upgrades.
The collaboration earned national recognition and forms part of UP’s ongoing work to improve well being in informal settlements.
