Nal’ibali Trust has launched a national call for original children’s stories in indigenous languages as South Africa marks Africa Month.
The initiative promotes literacy, African identity and mother-tongue reading in IsiNdebele, Setswana, Siswati, Tshivenda and Xitsonga.
Organisers say children learn best in their home languages.
This initiative seeks to encourage creativity and preservation of South Africa’s linguistic heritage.

Cape Town expands youth skills programme

The City of Cape Town has expanded its Installation, Repair and Maintenance Programme to train 250 unemployed young people in technical skills and workplace experience.
This places participants in municipal departments including Water and Sanitation and Human Settlements.
Participants assist artisans with plumbing, carpentry, electrical support and repair work while completing accredited training.
The expansion follows a pilot project in which 18 of the 31 trainees secured permanent jobs in the City and private companies.

Drake has broken Spotify’s 2026 single-day streaming record with his new album, ‘Iceman’.
The rapper also released two companion albums, with the projects generating more than 190 million Spotify streams on Friday when they got relased.
The surge in listeners briefly disrupted Spotify and Apple Music, while ‘Iceman’ reached number one in 79 countries, including strong support from South Africa.
The album is now expected to debut at the top of the Billboard 200 chart in the United States.
