Parktown Girls Learners Selected for Top Youth Leadership Programme

Three learners from Parktown High School for Girls—Lesedi Molete, Kim Fungazan, and Gabriella Wöstmann—have been chosen to take part in the Spirit of Youth Programme.

The programme is supported by the Gauteng Department of Education, and will include monthly sessions with learners from different schools in the province.

This initiative is designed to help young people become strong and responsible leaders by teaching them about topics like diversity, ethics, innovation, and active citizenship.

Rooiwal Water Plant Upgrade Set for Completion by July 2026

The first phase of the Rooiwal Water Treatment Plant in Tshwane is expected to be completed by July 2026.
The plant is currently undergoing a R450 million refurbishment project which will see it expanding its treatment capacity and improve its infrastructure.

Tshwane’s Mayor Nasiphi Moya says the refurbishments would ensure the quality of water discharged from the plant is improved.

The Mayor says the improvements include equipment management and re-installation, which have all been dealt with according to schedule.

SAA Announces New Routes to Boost Tourism and Connectivity

South African Airways has announced plans to expand its flight network with several new domestic and regional routes, aimed at boosting connectivity, tourism, and economic growth.

The airline will introduce flights from Johannesburg to George starting April 2026, Johannesburg to Gaborone in October 2025, and seasonal Cape Town to Mauritius services beginning November 2025.

Additional routes, including Johannesburg to East London and Cape Town to Durban, are also planned, with launch dates still to be confirmed.

SAA is also preparing to open ticket sales for its much-anticipated Mumbai route by July this year, with flights expected to commence in 2026.
