SA Innovation Week showcases local solutions

South Africa’s first Innovation Week is underway at the Nasrec Expo Centre in Johannesburg, bringing together key role players in science, technology and business.
Hosted by the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation, the event connects innovators, investors, corporates and policymakers through solution driven workshops and discussions aimed at driving practical outcomes.
A strong focus is placed on scaling locally developed technologies and showcasing homegrown innovations designed to address real world challenges.

Cape Town Carnival set to light up Green Point this weekend

The Cape Town Carnival returns this Saturday, 21 March, bringing a free full day of entertainment to Green Point in Cape Town.
Now in its 16th year, the event will feature colourful floats, live performances, music and street entertainment under this year’s theme Follow your heART, celebrating the city’s creative community.
The programme includes a 1 kilometre fun run, a pre parade from early evening, and a main parade starting at 7 pm, followed by an after party that runs until midnight.
Organisers say months of preparation by local artists, performers and community groups have gone into creating a celebration that brings people together in a safe public space.

Nelson Mandela Foundation hosts special Human Rights Day reading event

The Nelson Mandela Foundation will mark Human Rights Day with a special Making Reading Fun event on the 21st of March in Houghton, Johannesburg.
The gathering will bring families together to celebrate storytelling and promote a love of reading among children as part of Human Rights Month.
The event will also honour Aunty Mathabo, who has spent the past four years reading to children and helping build a welcoming reading community.
Guest authors, including Sihle Isipho Nontshokweni Bikitsha and Gomolemo Moagi, will share their work, with some books also available for sale.
