Mandela Day boosts preschool learning and nutrition

Preschool children in underserved communities are set to benefit from nutritious meals and new learning materials through the Ladles of Love 2026 Mandela Day Hands-On Initiative.
The event will take place at the Johannesburg Expo Centre in Nasrec on 22 July, where volunteers will spend 67 minutes creating flashcards, activity books and educational resources for early childhood development centres.
Each R300 ticket will provide two meals a day for a month for one child in need.
Individuals, families and companies can take part by attending the Johannesburg event or hosting their own activities anywhere in South Africa between 17 and 31 July using Hands-On Hero Kits.

Platform helps schools raise urgent funds

A Cape Town-built crowdfunding platform is helping South African schools raise money for urgent education needs, with 90 campaigns currently active.
GetGo Fund is funding learner bursaries, school fees, food, teacher salaries and learning materials through verified online campaigns.
The platform has already supported individual learners, provided bursaries to dozens of high school pupils and helped sustain teacher support for about 500 learners.

Stellenbosch University climbs in global rankings

Stellenbosch University has strengthened its position among the world's top universities after improving its global ranking this year.
The institution has climbed to 296th place in the latest QS World University Rankings, up from 302 last year, making it the third-highest ranked university in South Africa and on the continent.
The university has also been placed among the top 2.2 percent of institutions worldwide by the Centre for World University Rankings.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor Sibusiso Moyo says the improvement reflects stronger performance in research, reputation and international partnerships.
