Community Unites to Reclaim Corlett Drive
Story 1
Residents, volunteers and local businesses are joining forces to reclaim the Corlett Drive corridor in Johannesburg through daily clean-ups, security patrols and community activities.
Since April 2025, volunteers have collected rubbish, improved safety measures and organised weekly walks and runs that encourage families and residents to use public spaces again.
Private security teams and community patrols are working together to make the area cleaner and safer.
The initiative is now calling on more residents and businesses to volunteer and contribute so the community-led renewal project can continue to grow.

FIFA Fund Expands Education and Sport Access

The FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund is supporting organisations that improve access to education and sport for children in underprivileged communities.
Pretoria's Eduplex School has been selected as one of only 27 recipients worldwide and one of just two in South Africa.
The funding will help the school expand its programme that integrates deaf learners into mainstream classrooms.
Eduplex has also trained education and healthcare professionals from more than 50 countries to replicate its inclusive education model.

The 2026 Rocking Future Career Expo Roadshow visited The King's College in Bryanston on 15 May, giving learners access to career guidance and educational opportunities.
Learners attended presentations on study options and life after matric and met representatives from private tertiary institutions.
The expo forms part of a nationwide initiative that connects high school learners with career advisors and educational resources to help them make informed decisions about their futures.

SPAR Women's Challenge Returns to Gqeberha

The 33rd SPAR Women's Challenge will take place at Pollok Beach in Gqeberha on 26 September.
Organisers have increased the entry cap to 6 000 participants after last year's race sold out.
The event will again feature 5km and 10km races and has expanded participation opportunities for differently abled athletes.
Race shirts and goodie bags will, for the first time, be produced by the Association for the Physically Disabled in Nelson Mandela Bay.
