Fuels Industry Praises Crackdown on Illegal Fuel Trade

The Fuels Industry Association of South Africa has welcomed recent action taken by the South African Revenue Service (SARS) and law enforcement agencies to fight the illegal fuel trade in the country.The Association praised SARS and the National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure for their efforts, which have disrupted major criminal operations. Recent raids led to the seizure of nearly 2 million litres of illegal diesel, the shutdown of fuel depots that were breaking the law, and the launch of several criminal cases in Gauteng, Mpumalanga, and KwaZulu-Natal.The Association’s Chief Executive said these actions show the urgent need to stop criminal groups that take advantage of gaps in fuel regulations. These syndicates often smuggle fuel and make illegal diesel by mixing it with untaxed paraffin.

Green Light for Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit

The Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile has officially approved the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit in South Africa for restoration to Grade 1 status. This is a key milestone toward the potential return of Formula 1 racing to the African continent. The last Formula 1 Grand Prix held on African soil took place at Kyalami in 1993. That event concluded a series of races at the circuit, including notable wins by Williams drivers Nigel Mansell and Alain Prost. With the FIA’s green light, Kyalami has been granted a three-year window to complete necessary upgrades to meet current F1 standards. Key upgrades will include enhanced safety features such as expanded run-off zones, updated barrier and debris fencing systems, and improved drainage infrastructure.
