With all 10km and 21km race entries selling out ahead of todays event at DP World Wanderers Stadium.Thousands of runners, walkers, families and fitness enthusiasts will come together to celebrate Nelson Mandela's legacy through fitness, unity and community spirit. Inspired by Madiba's walks through Houghton, the event also includes a 5km family walk, along with live entertainment and activities for participants.

Learners at Parkmore Nursery School made a big difference for Mandela Day by collecting essential items and preparing food for people in need. The preschool community donated necessities for residents of the Joseph Gerrard Old Age Home in Alexandra. The donations were handed to the Catholic Women’s League Rivonia Parish for distribution yesterday.
The children also helped make homemade sandwiches, which was shared with homeless people through the church's outreach programme.

The vouchers can be redeemed for essential items such as food and basic necessities while also connecting recipients with support services. Because the vouchers are digital, they cannot be sold or exchanged for cash, helping ensure donations are used for their intended purpose. Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis has welcomed the initiative, saying it offers an innovative way for residents to support those in need.

South African Professor Mike Sathekge has been awarded a 3 million rand grant to advance research that could transform the diagnosis and treatment of aggressive breast cancer.
The head of the Department of Nuclear Medicine at the University of Pretoria and Steve Biko Academic Hospital received the 2025 Harry Oppenheimer Fellowship Award from the Oppenheimer Memorial Trust. The funding will support his work in theranostics, an innovative field that combines diagnosis and targeted treatment.The technology helps doctors see exactly where cancer is in the body, understand how it is behaving and choose treatments that are better suited to each individual patient. It can also help doctors track how well treatment is working over time.
The grant supports groundbreaking South African research that could improve cancer care and offer hope to breast cancer patients worldwide.
