DiG Foundation eyes new opportunities as LIV Golf comes to SA
Story 1
The DiG Foundation is nurturing young township golfers and sees the arrival of LIV Golf South Africa as a chance to open more doors for its players.
Founder Songezo “Songz” Sonamzi says the foundation teaches golf alongside life skills to underprivileged youth, while building facilities where children can learn the sport for free.
Originally based in Soweto and now operating from Kyalami, DiG aims to introduce more youngsters to golf, giving them pathways into competitive play and personal growth.
Organisers say next year’s global LIV Golf event in South Africa could boost the sport’s profile and create greater opportunities for young golfers from disadvantaged communities.

Story 2
A University of Cape Town graduate, Matimba Mabonda, has developed a sustainable housing solution by building a three-bedroom home in Ennerdale using soil and recycled waste materials. The pilot house was completed in under a month and demonstrates how low-cost, eco-friendly homes can be made without traditional bricks.
More than 90% of the walls combine earth and plastic waste, keeping the home warm in winter and cool in summer. Mabonda has launched a start-up to scale the concept and is engaging with certification bodies to make the technology widely available.
