Billy Cowley breaks world record and raises funds for cancer support
Story 1
Billy Cowley, known as the “marmite man,” and his team have set a new Guinness World Record for the most awareness ribbons placed on a single car at Renault Silver Lakes in Pretoria East, Pretoria. Their effort saw more than 7 200 hand written ribbons attached to a vehicle, exceeding the previous record by over 1 000.
The record attempt also raised more than R120 000 for cancer support organisations, with each ribbon sponsored by members of the public and dedicated to someone affected by the disease.
Cowley was joined by Babette LaBüschagne, actress Anél Alexander, and young cancer survivor Katie Hayes in placing the ribbons, working throughout the day as supporters came to take part.
Funds will go directly to PinkDrive and Sungardens Hospice, and organisers say another Guinness World Record attempt is in the works for next year.

Fuel price relief expected for motorists in January
Story 2
South African motorists could see some relief at the pumps as they start the new year, according to early projections by the Central Energy Fund. Data suggests petrol prices may decrease by between 15 and 17 cents per litre in January.
The projected drop is linked to lower global oil prices and a stronger rand, which have reduced international fuel costs. Diesel prices are expected to ease even further, with forecasts pointing to a decrease of more than one rand per litre.
Final fuel price adjustments will be confirmed by the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy early in January.

UK schools set to strengthen approach to tackling misogyny
Story 3
UK teachers are expected to receive specialist training to address misogyny in classrooms under a proposed government strategy aimed at reducing violence against women and girls over the next decade.
The plan would see all secondary schools in England teaching lessons on healthy relationships, with greater focus on consent, respectful behaviour and online safety.
Schools may also be given the option to refer high risk pupils for early support, while a dedicated helpline is planned for learners concerned about their own behaviour. The strategy also includes proposals to restrict harmful digital tools and to work with technology companies to improve online protections for children.
