South Africans Bake Cupcakes for Cancer

Thousands of South Africans will bake and sell cupcakes on 26 September to raise funds for children with cancer and their families.
Cupcakes of Hope supports families with transport, accommodation, meals and other treatment-related costs, with more than 2,400 volunteers raising over R2 million last year.
The campaign will run at more than 80 shopping centres, as well as in schools, workplaces and communities across South Africa.
Volunteers can register as Cupcake Angels and bake 24 cupcakes to help fund support for children undergoing cancer treatment.

Village of Hope is helping vulnerable families in Mgongo informal settlement in Brakpan through food and school supplies.
Earlier this month, the Brakpan-based NPO provided meals and treats to more than 150 community members.
Its Walk a Mile Drive on August 13 provided learners with school shoes and clothing to help them attend school.
The initiative was supported by Pick n Pay Mall@Carnival, Thandimfundo Learning Academy and Rise Against Hunger.

The Department of Water and Sanitation is calling on South-Africans to support 17-year-old Sikhulile Nkosi as he prepares to represent the country at the Stockholm Junior Water Prize in Sweden later this month.
The Grade 11 learner from Sitintile Secondary School in Mbombela, Mpumalanga, won the South-African Youth Water Prize for developing an innovative coating that reduces microplastic and chemical contamination in drinking water.
Spokesperson Wisane Mavasa says public voting for the People’s Choice Award closes on 15 August.
