Winning Sony Photos On Display in Johannesburg

A selection of winning images from the Sony World Photography Awards is now on display at the Roger Ballen Centre for Photography in Forest Town, Johannesburg.
The exhibition, Decisive Moment: Sony World Photography Awards, features work from the 2024, 2025 and 2026 competitions across documentary, portraiture, wildlife, sport, landscape and creative photography.
A concurrent exhibition, New Eyes: The Roger Ballen Centre Photography Award, showcases work by South African photographers D.M. Terblanche, Zwelibanzi Zwane and Karabo Mooki.
Together, the exhibitions bring international award-winning photography and emerging South African talent to Johannesburg.

Village of Hope Supports Vulnerable Families

Village of Hope is helping vulnerable families in Mgongo informal settlement in Brakpan through food and school supplies.
Earlier this month, the Brakpan-based NPO provided meals and treats to more than 150 community members.
Its Walk a Mile Drive on August 13 provided learners with school shoes and clothing to help them attend school.
The initiative was supported by Pick n Pay Mall@Carnival, Thandimfundo Learning Academy and Rise Against Hunger.

Avocado Project Brings Jobs to Makgoba

More than 600 people in the Makgoba community could gain jobs, farming opportunities and new businesses through a multi-million-rand avocado project outside Tzaneen, Limpopo.
SEDA has partnered with commercial farmer ZZ2 and the Makgoba-Mamphoko Trust to expand the project, with funding backed by the Khula Credit Guarantee Scheme, the Department of Small Business Development and a commercial bank.
The partnership aims to turn community participation in commercial farming into income and enterprise opportunities.
