Zambia records its biggest maize harvest
Teaser / Tailpiece story
Zambia has produced its largest maize harvest on record, with an estimated 4.9 million tonnes produced this season.
The harvest is 28% higher than last year, with increased planting and good rainfall helping farmers produce around two million tonnes more than the country needs for local consumption.
The surplus could be exported and help strengthen food supplies across Southern Africa, particularly as the region prepares for possible drier conditions next season.
