Gauteng expands mobile clinic services

Gauteng has expanded its mobile clinic fleet from 46 to 53 units, bringing primary healthcare services closer to communities across the province.
The seven new clinics were handed over by Gauteng MEC for Health and Wellness Faith Mazibuko at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital.
They will serve communities in Johannesburg, Tshwane, Ekurhuleni and Sedibeng, offering health screenings, HIV and TB services, and checks for conditions such as diabetes and hypertension.

Mpumalanga farmers get boost to grow their businesses

Emerging farmers in Mpumalanga are getting new opportunities to expand their agricultural businesses through government support.
The provincial government has backed the Eggsellent by Lebo project in Kwaggafontein, where new facilities are being developed to increase egg production.
The project, owned by young farmer Lebo Mashigo, is set to have two layer houses with capacity for 30 000 chickens and has already created jobs in the community.
Lebo says she was helped along the way and is now able to grow her farming business and create opportunities for others.

Phakama Women’s Academy welcomes 22 young women

The Phakama Women’s Academy has welcomed its 12th annual intake, with 22 young women from Emeris, AFDA and the University of Johannesburg joining the 2026 programme.
Based in Kyalami, Midrand, the free programme helps graduates prepare for the workplace through training in communication, confidence, financial skills and career development.
The women will also receive one on one mentorship from leading South African businesswomen.
More than 200 young women have graduated from the academy since it began in 2014.
The Class of 2026 will complete six interactive modules before graduating later this year.

UAE names first female Arab astronaut

The United Arab Emirates is opening a new chapter in its space programme by selecting its first female astronaut.
Noura Al Matroushi was chosen from more than 4 000 applicants and will now train at NASA’s Johnson Space Centre in Houston for future space missions.
Her selection comes after the UAE became the first Arab country to successfully send a probe into orbit around Mars.
At just 28, Al Matroushi is also part of a growing group of women taking on leading roles in the country’s space programme
