Muholi Art Institute to host Black Women in Photography Conference

The Muholi Art Institute is set to host the Black Women in Photography Conference later this month.

The gathering seeks to reshape South Africa’s creative landscape by empowering, celebrating and supporting Women in the field of photography.

Running from the 21st to the 23rd of August at the Market Square in Johannesburg, the conference is a collaborative effort in partnership with The Market Photo Workshop and the Ruth Motau Photo Mentorship.

The Head of the Market Photo Workshop, Bandile Gumbi, emphasized the importance of the initiative in showcasing talent and in creating an environment where Black women photographers can thrive.

Over $10 Billion raised at AU-AIP Water Investment Summit

The water and Sanitation Department has announced that more than $10 billion has been raised in the last 3 days of the water investment summit.

The 3 day African Union-AIP Water Investment Summit, took place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre last week, in alignment with South Africa’s G20 Presidency.

The water and Sanitation Minister Pemmy Majodina says 80 priority water investment projects from 38 different countries were identified for the summit which have already attracted an estimated projection of 10 to 12 billion US Dollars a year, worth of investments.

1.3 Million Children reached through Santa Shoebox Drive

The Santa Shoebox Project has brought smiles to underprivilaged children and teens across South Africa and Namibia for nearly 2 decades.

The project has reached more than 1.3 million children since its inception, gifting them with thoughtfully packed shoeboxes filled with essentials and treats.
Each year, the project collects and distributes the personalized gifts to children throughout the country.

South Africans are invited to pledge a physical box that will be dropped off locally, while international supporters can opt for a virtual box, which volunteers will prepare on their behalf.
Pledges can be submitted from the 1st of September at www.santashoebox.org.za.
Drop-offs will take place in late October and early November.

Two skaters from Kimberley in the Northern Cape will take part in an international skating competition in Russia.

The Grand Skate tour will bring together some of the best skaters from across the globe, offering the duo a unique opportunity to not only test their skills against elite athletes, but also to proudly represent both South Africa and the African continent in a space where the continent is often underrepresented.

The pair will compete in the street skateboarding category, a fast paced and highly technical style that demands creativity, precision and confidence.
