Johannesburg Named Green City Awards Finalist

Johannesburg has been named a finalist in the 2026 World Green City Awards for its Greening the City programme.
Led by Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo, the initiative focuses on improving access to trees and green spaces, particularly in areas that have historically had less access to them.
The programme also aims to protect the city’s ageing tree canopy and support healthier, climate-resilient communities.
Johannesburg is one of three international finalists in the Living Green for Health and Wellbeing category.

Bright Eyes Learners Win Six Maths Medals

Bright Eyes Trust learners have won six medals at the KZN Abagility Math Club Regional Competition in Hillcrest.
The learners took home three gold, two silver and one bronze medal at the competition held on September 12 at Highbury Preparatory School.
The event brought together young mathematicians to test their skills, with Bright Eyes taking part for the fifth consecutive year.
A Grade Two learner also took part in a maths demonstration in front of the audience, as the learners put their skills and confidence on display.
The learners took home three gold, two silver and one bronze medal at the competition held on September 12 at Highbury Preparatory School.

Cape Town Hosts First National Padel Championship

South Africa’s first national padel championship will take place in Cape Town next month.
The Growthpoint SA National Padel Championship will bring the country’s top players together, with age-group events running from October 9 to 11 and the Open Division from October 16 to 18.
Players will compete for the first official national titles and a share of 125-thousand rand in prize money.
The tournament marks the first time South Africa will crown national champions in padel.
