Gauteng Completes Five Delayed Schools

The Gauteng government says it has invested more than R2 billion in social infrastructure during the 2026/27 financial year, with five long delayed schools now completed.
The completed projects include schools in Midvaal, Springs, Eldorado Park and Westonaria, while work continues on several other infrastructure projects across the province.
The province is also carrying out 26 rehabilitation, renovation and refurbishment projects to improve existing school facilities.

New Somerset Hospital in Cape Town has launched a cuddle therapy programme to provide comfort and human contact to newborns who have been abandoned or are awaiting foster care or adoption.
Volunteers work alongside hospital staff to provide gentle care to babies who can spend weeks in hospital while social workers arrange permanent placements.
The programme is being overseen by paediatrician Dr Phumza Nongena, who says the team hopes to expand it to support more babies.

The Soshanguve Engineering School of Specialisation has launched a practical agriculture project with the Shoprite Foundation.
Two horticultural tunnels and a sustainable borehole will give 40 Grade 9 learners hands on training in soil science, crop rotation, composting, irrigation and pest control.
The project will also support the school’s feeding programme and could create opportunities for learners to explore agriculture as a business or career.
