Johannesburg Named Green City Awards Finalist

Johannesburg has been named a finalist in the 2026 World Green City Awards for its Greening the City programme.
Led by Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo, the initiative focuses on improving access to trees and green spaces, particularly in areas that have historically had less access to them.
The programme also aims to protect the city’s ageing tree canopy and support healthier, climate-resilient communities.
Johannesburg is one of three international finalists in the Living Green for Health and Wellbeing category.

Bright Eyes Learners Win Six Maths Medals

Bright Eyes Trust learners have won six medals at the KZN Abagility Math Club Regional Competition in Hillcrest.
The learners, who have visual impairments, took home three gold, two silver and one bronze medal at the competition on September 12.
Bright Eyes has taken part in the competition for five consecutive years, giving its learners an opportunity to test and develop their maths skills.
A Grade Two learner also joined a maths demonstration in front of the audience, putting the learners’ skills and confidence on display.
Bright Eyes says the competition gives the learners a chance to build confidence and develop problem-solving skills.

Cat Calendar Raises Funds For Durban Cats

A new 2027 cat calendar is raising money to support Durban’s feral cats.
Produced by Compass Cares and St Francis Carers of Abandoned and Abused Cats, the calendar features stories of rescued cats and supports organisations caring for them.
Money raised from sales will go towards feeding and sterilising feral cats across Durban.
The organisations say St Francis alone feeds and cares for more than 100 cats each day.

Mosimane Names 30-Man Bafana Squad

Bafana Bafana coach Pitso Mosimane has named a 30-man squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Guinea and Eritrea, as well as a friendly against Egypt.
The squad includes several players from the World Cup team, while five players, including Khuliso Mudau and Mbekezeli Mbokazi, are out injured.
Mosimane says the team’s target is to win its home qualifiers and secure a place at AFCON 2027:
