Joburg to Invest R1.7 billion in water infrastructure

The City of Johannesburg has unveiled plans to spend R1.7 billion in the 2025/26 financial year on water infrastructure upgrades, as part of a R32.5 billion 10-year investment programme.
The plan focuses on major rehabilitation projects at the Brixton, Hurst Hill, and Crosby reservoirs, along with accelerated pipe replacement and efforts to reduce leaks and improve system reliability.
Johannesburg Water Board Chairperson, Dineo Majavu, stressed that protecting water infrastructure is a shared responsibility.

The City of Johannesburg’s EMS Aquatic Rescue Unit is intensifying its training and readiness efforts ahead of the summer rainy season.
The programme includes intensive Swift Water Rescue training at locations like the Vaal Dam and a new water safety campaign that was launched on the 1st of September in Sandton.
The unit says it is ready to respond to any water-related emergencies and urges residents to exercise caution around water.
