Tourism Minister Patricia de Lille has reaffirmed that a new visa system will be up and running by the end of September this year.
The Electronic Travel Authorisation system is designed to simplify visa applications and border entry for short-term tourists and other categories of travelers.
Applicants will be able to complete the process online and make secure payments.
An integrated AI system will then verify the authenticity of each passport against the standards of the issuing country.
The new system is part of the department’s plan to increase international visits in South Africa.
