Gauteng Education Department targets 100% learner placement by November

The Gauteng Education Department says it is confident that it will reach 100% learner placements before the end of November.

The department has processed nearly 90 percent of applications following the closure of the online admissions cycle in August.
The Education MEC Matome Chiloane announced that around 40,000 spaces remain available for Grade 1 learners.

The department provided an update as part of its ongoing progress report on the 2026 Grade 1 and 8 placement process.

The awards honour educators who have demonstrated exceptional commitment, innovation, and impact in the classroom.

The winners were acknowledged across various categories, including Excellence in Primary School Teaching, Secondary School Leadership, Inclusive Education and Teaching in Foundation Phase.

The teachers received a hero's welcome when they arrived at the Polokwane International Airport earlier this week.

NWU students to compete in prestigious 2025 World Dance Championships

The North-West University's Tebogo Baas and Matlhogonolo Bodibe, are set to represent South Africa at the 2025 World Dance Championships in the Netherlands this November.

The students secured their place in the Youth Championship Latin category, following consistent podium finishes and a strong showing in the qualifiers.

The pair say the selection is an opportunity to demonstrate the standard of South African dance beyond national borders.
