Johannesburg gears up for landmark Bankenveld District City Project

The City of Johannesburg will undergo one of its biggest transformations with the development of the new Bankenveld District City, a large-scale urban project undertaken in partnership by Calgro M3 and the Momentum-owned Eris Property Fund.

The 300-hectare development, located off the Marlboro offramp, will include between 20,000 to 30,000 housing units, as well as commercial, retail, educational and medical facilities.

Calgro M3 says it expects to begin construction of the residential units in the District City within 18 months.

Cape Town rolls out second phase of MyCiTi expansion project

The City of Cape Town is currently undertaking the second phase of the MyCiti expansion operation, which will link over 30 suburbs to the inner city.

The phase is expected to bring improved and more affordable public transport to communities along the southeast corridor.
The expansion is part of a multi-billion rand project, which is set to be completed by June 2027.

The municipality’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Rob Quintas, says the City views subsidising the service as an investment in its residents.

SA Tourism records 30% Increase in International arrivals

The Minister of Tourism Patricia De Lille has welcomed the increase in international tourists in the country.

The Department recorded a 30 percent year on year increase in tourist arrivals in August this year, with
over 6 million tourists visiting the country since the beginning of the year.

The majority of the tourists are from countries including Europe, Central and South America and the Middle East.
The Minister says the numbers tell a story of confidence and recovery.

UCT to host Times Higher Education World Academic Summit

The University of Cape Town has been selected to host the Times Higher Education World Academic Summit for the first time in Africa, from the 29th of September to the 1st of October 2026.

The historic gathering will showcase African universities’ rising influence in innovation and research in the global higher education landscape.

UCT Vice-Chancellor Professor Mosa Moshabela expressed great anticipation at welcoming high-profile international stakeholders in higher education to the University for the momentous gathering.
