Pretoria volunteers build 4.2-metre Christmas tree for cancer awareness
Story 1
Volunteers from Crochet for Cancer have created a 4.2-metre Christmas tree at Brooklyn Mall in Pretoria to raise awareness and support for cancer survivors.
The tree was made from more than a thousand handmade crochet squares contributed by the community, stitched together on a steel frame.
Crochet for Cancer, founded in 2017, engages volunteers through high teas, walks, and other events to produce blankets, beanies, stoma bags, and other handmade items for oncology patients and premature babies.
Funds from the Crochet-A-Thon will go to Cansa, and the tree’s squares will later be repurposed into blankets for old-age homes.
