Soshanguve power upgrades to improve electricity supply
Story 1
The Tshwane metro has stepped up efforts to strengthen the electricity network serving Soshanguve.
Ongoing projects include the construction of a new 132kV overhead power line, the upgrade of the IA Substation, and refurbishment of the JJ and W Substations.
These upgrades aim to transfer half the load from the ageing IA Substation to the new JJ Substation, reduce frequent outages, and improve reliability for high-demand areas.
Additional work includes underground cable installations linking substations and replacement of vandalised switchgear panels.
The metro says these initiatives demonstrate a long-term commitment to stable, safe electricity supply for the Soshanguve communities, with full completion expected in 2026.
