Igugu learners use new robotics centre

Learners at Igugu Primary School in Soweto have started using a new coding and robotics centre launched by iSchoolAfrica and iStore last week.
The partners refurbished the facility and provided iPads and other devices to support digital learning and coding skills development.
Learners took part in robotics and coding sessions as part of ongoing training programmes linked to the school.
The centre aims to improve access to digital education in the community and prepare learners for future technology careers.

Learners from six Gauteng schools took part in Siemens Energy’s Just Energy Transition hackathon in Midrand, where they developed solutions to energy and sustainability challenges.
The event tested Grade 10, 11 and 12 learners on projects linked to carbon-neutral design, energy careers and waste-to-energy systems.
Buhle Park Secondary School won bursaries and tablets after designing a system that converts industrial heat into electricity to reduce diesel use.
Other schools presented solar-powered food security projects and research on careers in the renewable energy sector.

Cape Town to host Mandela Marathon

Cape Town will host the first Nelson Mandela Marathon on 18 October 2026, featuring multiple race distances.
The event is part of four sporting initiatives launched by the Nelson Mandela Foundation, including the Mandela Day Walk and Run, Ride4Hope cycling event, the Cape Town Marathon and the Mandela Remembrance Walk and Run.
The races running from July to December 2026 across South Africa and neighbouring countries will raise funds for the foundation's programmes.
Legacy Ride4Hope’s director of operations, Luthando Kaka, says the Mozambique-to-KwaZulu-Natal cycling campaign will raise funds for school infrastructure:

Former football star David Beckham has become Britain’s first billionaire sportsman.
According to the 2026 Sunday Times Rich List, Beckham and his wife, Victoria Beckham, built a combined fortune of more than R26 billion through football, business investments, fashion and global brand partnerships.
Since retiring in 2013, Beckham has co-owned football club Inter Miami CF and worked with brands including Adidas and Hugo Boss.
The former England captain also won league titles and the Champions League during his career with Manchester United.
