Team IMPACT Connects Children with Illness to US College Sports Teams
US nonprofit Team IMPACT is marking 15 years of pairing children facing serious illness and disability with college sports teams across the United States. More than 4,500 children have been matched with over 850 universities, joining teams as official members and taking part in training, games and campus life.
The programme aims to build inclusion and support while helping student athletes develop empathy and leadership skills. One recent example highlights a strong friendship formed between a teenager with a rare genetic disorder and a university hockey player.
The organisation plans to expand the initiative further in 2026.
(Good news because it creates belonging and support for children living with serious health challenges.)
